Founded in Edmonton, Alberta, in 2025, Growling Stitch is a design studio transforming overlooked textiles into one-of-a-kind garments and objects.
The studio grew from textile research examining substandard clothing donations and the potential that remains in garments no longer suitable for conventional resale.
Working primarily with substandard second-hand materials, Growling Stitch reconstructs textiles according to their fibre, condition, and remaining potential. Each piece begins with an existing textile that might otherwise be overlooked, damaged, or unsuitable for conventional resale.
Growling Stitch documents the journey of these materials from their original form and visible defects through to reconstruction. This approach supports a more traceable and considered way of working with reclaimed textiles.
